The first thing you need is your passport. Then depending on what passport you are traveling on and the country you are going to you need to check what further documents you may need. Whether it be a visa, you may have to do an electronic visa waiver if that applies. If you are traveling with children you may need to carry their birth certificate depending on what country you are leaving from or going too.
Once you buy your ticket it’s always a good idea to buy travel insurance. It’s often a good idea to print off accommodation or car reservations etc in case you do get questioned on arrival it helps to show you are a legitimate tourist. You may also have to prove you have enough money to support your visit. This is more if you are staying for a longer period than the average tourist. These days you can show these documents on your phone etc too.
