Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur has a long grand history. The hotel has maintained its history over the years while modernizing and growing. This hotel feels like you are stepping back in time.
The hotel was built in 1932 and quickly became a very popular place to hold fancy parties and weddings. In its hay day, there were many famous people in and out of this hotel. It was the grandest hotel in all of Kuala Lumpur.
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur was actually shut down for 30 years after many big hotel chains such as Hilton and Merlin moved into Kuala Lumpur. Many thought it was the end of an era for this luxurious hotel.

The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur today
Today the Majestic that we see has been rebuilt and modernized. It is part of the YTL hotel group, which is famous for its luxurious hotels. The Majestic Hotel now consists of 2 buildings. The iconic and elegant “Majestic Wing”. This is the original hotel building that has been meticulously restored with amazing attention to detail.
The second building is called the “Tower Wing”. This is the taller tower you see as you pull into the hotel. This is an addition that was made when the hotel re-opened in 2008.
The elegant details of both the buildings make you feel as though you have gone back to the early 1900s. The renovation spared no expense or detail, it is so elegantly finished, you could spend a day just looking at all the details.

My stay at the Majestic
For my stay at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. I booked a deluxe room in the Majestic wing with club access. When I arrived at the Majestic, I was quickly greeted at the front door and taken to the club to check-in. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They told me to sit and relax in the club with a drink while they checked me into my room.
Since I am a Marriott Bonvoy member, I was upgraded to a suite. This was a pleasant surprise. When you book a room in the Majestic wing with club access, you also get a personal butler. My personal butler walked me to my room and helped with my bags. I didn’t really use the butler service at all, but they were very prompt at answering the phone and any questions.
The Majestic Suite in the Majestic Wing
The one-bedroom suite in the Majestic Wing is spacious and luxuriously decorated. It has a large living room with a tv and a desk. Then there is an oversized bedroom with a king-sized bed, a vanity desk, and another tv. Giving you plenty of space to relax.
The bathroom is beautiful and has a claw foot bathtub and an oversized shower. The black and white tiles stay true to the time period of the hotel. Like I said before, it truly feels like you have stepped back in time to the colonial time era.
The suite does have a mini-fridge stocked with a few drinks that are complimentary. There are also a few small snacks (my room included a jar of peanuts) that are complimentary. These are refilled once a day.
In the bathroom, there is a hairdryer and the Majestic gives you great bathroom amenities pictured below.
What I liked about the room:
- Beautifully decorated
- Lots of space
- Desk space in the living room
- The large clawfoot bathtub
- Oversized shower
- 2 televisions
- The dark original hardwood
What I didn’t like about the room:
- The bed was harder than I like
- The location of the room was a bit noisy. My room was located right over the bar and I could hear people working while I was sleeping
- I needed more electrical outlets for my phone, laptop, etc… specifically by the bed. There was only one outlet in the whole bedroom.
The Majestic Wing
The Majestic Wing is the original hotel and it is gorgeous. From the outside, it is all white and appears to stand out in the tropical green of Malaysia. On its main floor, it features the Colonial Cafe where you can go for high tea. The main restaurant has a great bar with live music in the evenings.
Also on the main floor, you’ll find an orchid conservatory. It is filled with stunning orchids everywhere you look. This room can be booked for private parties. It truly is one of a kind and you do not want to miss seeing while you are staying at the Majestic Kuala Lumpur.
Just off the front of the Majestic Wing, there is a smokehouse bar, where men can play billiards and cards. There is also a screening room there where you can watch classic movies.
The Majestic Hotel’s Club
At the end of the tea lounge, you will find the club. This is for guests who have booked rooms with club access or are a Marriott platinum member. If you have club access, you will be able to go in at any time.
The club serves drinks all day long. But they serve alcohol and a snack in the afternoons and evenings. Afternoon snacks are served every day from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and cocktail hour is from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
My impression of the club was that it was too formal for my taste. I have stayed in many hotels with Executive Lounges and this was too quiet to work in. There were too many staff members waiting to help guests in the room. I felt like the staff was watching my every bite of cookie waiting for a crumb to fall, just so they could rush over and catch it.
The hotel staff asks you to take a seat as soon as you enter the club, unlike executive lounges that are self serve, the hotel staff serves you. I did not like this because I wasted food that I would not have taken if it had been self-service.
To clarify, the afternoon snack is a small assortment of desserts. Most of the desserts were really good. But I have a major sweet tooth, so put sugar on anything and I’ll probably like it.
The cocktail hour also serves a small snack. I was expecting something similar to executive lounges meaning that the small snack would still be enough for a light dinner. But I was wrong. The small snack is literally a small snack. It is one bite of a few different sandwiches. But they do serve free alcohol to make up for the lackluster of a snack.
Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur Facilities
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur has many facilities, it features 2 pools, a full spa, and a gym.
The gym is located in the tower building on the 5th floor, right next to the pool. I had a really difficult time finding it on the first day. So if you are staying in the Majestic Wing, you do need to cross back over to the tower and then take the elevator up to the 5th floor.
The gym is small but had lots of great equipment. It features a few treadmills, an elliptical, and your typical free weights and weight machines. It was a bit small for my taste, but I like a lot of space to do weights and HIIT.

The pool is also located on the 5th floor, you will see it as soon as you exit the elevator. The pool is very nice for adults. It is quiet and the water is not too cold. But I would not recommend this pool for kids. It has a very relaxing atmosphere and my kids seemed to disrupt the peaceful feeling.
I did not have a chance to visit the Majestic Hotel’s Spa. But I have heard great things. The second pool is located just off the spa and is an adults-only pool. You can check out more information about the spa on this post.
I enjoyed most of the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur’s facilities. Although I wish the pool would have been slightly more inviting for kids.
Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur’s High Tea
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is known for its wonderful high tea. They always feature different themes. Such as at Christmas, they have a “Teddy Bear” high tea. This is fun for little kids to bring their teddy bears to join the fun. During the month of February, they have a Valentine’s Day special.
The high tea is served in the Colonial Cafe that is located in the Majestic Wing of the hotel. If you are planning to go to high tea, it is best to dress up for the occasion. The Majestic is a formal hotel and even as a guest I felt like I needed to dress more formally during my stay.
The Majestic Hotel’s high tea is served every day from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. It is highly recommended that you make a reservation, especially on the weekends. You can make a reservation on their website here.
You can park under the Majestic Hotel in their parking garage. It is easy to park and you can use your Touch n’ Go to pay. Parking at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is 15RM daily or you can valet for 40RM.
Tips for staying at the Majestic Wing
There are a few different things about the Majestic Wing rather than in the Majestic Tower. If you booked a room in the Majestic Wing with Club access, these things will apply to you.
For check-in, you go straight to the Club which is located in the Majestic Wing. The Majestic Hotel’s check-in time is flexible. I assumed it would have a normal check-in time is completely flexible. The hotel allows you to check-in when you want. You do need to inform them when you will be arriving so your room will be ready.
I called the day of my reservation and asked if I could check-in around 1:00. They were perfectly happy to allow me an early check-in. My check-out time was 12:00 pm.
You have a few options for breakfast as the Majestic Wing. You can have your butler bring breakfast to your room. The breakfast is a set menu. My butler told me the in-room breakfast is small and that he would recommend going to the restaurant in the Tower building.
I decided to have the full buffet breakfast (both options are included in the price of your room). Breakfast is served in the Contago and it did not disappoint. It was your typical full buffet breakfast including Eastern and Western options.
Things to do around the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
One of the biggest downsides of this hotel is its location. Unfortunately, since it was built in the early 1900s, Kuala Lumpur has boomed in different areas. Leaving the Majestic in a quieter and inconvenient location for tourists.
The Majestic Hotel does offer a few shuttle bus to a few of the major destinations in Kuala Lumpur. The Majestic Line runs to the Sentral Station, Bukit Bintang, and The Gardens Mall. It is free for guests and runs every 30 minutes to once an hour.
The hotel is located within walking distance to the National Mosque and the Islamic Art Museum. I would not recommend going to the former train station. There is not much to see in there and it is not worth your time.
You could also walk to Kuala Lumpur’s Central Market. This is one of the oldest markets in Malaysia. You will find a wide variety of things in the central market. It’s the perfect place to buy souvenirs.
You can always take a Grab car anywhere you want to go around Kuala Lumpur.

Overall Take on the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
My take away from this elegant hotel is that it is the perfect spot to relax and get away from the hustle of day to day life. The beautiful spa and quaint Colonial Cafe offer perfect places to enjoy some quiet time.
If you are looking for adventure and tons of activity, this is not your hotel.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you like history, you feel like you have gone back to the early 1900s as soon as you arrive at the hotel. The renovations did not overlook any detail.
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is also a great spot for adults traveling without kids. If parents are looking for a place to get away from their kids, this is the perfect place. During my stay there, I only saw one kid. The hotel is quiet and peaceful, especially in the Club.
