Baby travel
We have made a lot of mistakes when traveling with all 3 of our babies. Learn some tricks for baby travel.
You’ll never travel light again. Our kids are now ages 10, 7, and 2 but they have traveled the world and have lived in different companies and on different continents. You’ll be carrying diapers, wipes, food, change of clothes, toys, etc. etc. with you everywhere you go.
On a good note, outside the US people will generally give you a front of the line pass. They will let you and your young family go first. My husband didn’t realize how special that was until she came back to the US with my son and wasn’t even offered as much as a pre-boarding opportunity.
Outside the Western world, get used to riding in a taxi without a car seat. If you rent a car from a global brand, they’ll have car seats available for rent generally. However, taxis will see a car seat and keep on driving.
Kids are a LOT of work and it’s tricky to really relax when you’re traveling with one. He/She will be sleeping in the same room as you and might not want to sleep the whole time. This makes the whole family tired and cranky. You’ll go to places and your kid will decide that they’ve had enough for the day and start screaming. It’s completely unrealistic to maintain the exact same traveling lifestyle that you had before having a child. But that doesn’t mean you can’t travel. It just requires a lot of adjustments in terms of schedule and managing expectations (i.e. be prepared to call it a day early).
